Rebecca Johnson was awarded Teacher of the Year for 2015. All of the teachers on campus nominate and vote for whom they think best deserves the award.
“I’m up here at 6:30 or earlier, and I see Ms. Johnson arriving not long after that, so I know she’s a teacher who is very dedicated to her profession,” sixth grade teacher Michael Poliakoff said.
Teacher of the Year is a tradition at Small.
“It makes me really proud, and it’s really a honor to be recognized by my peers,” Johnson said.
Before being hired at Small, Ms. Johnson student taught here.
“I worked with Ms. Johnson when she was a student teacher, and she is amazing. I really liked the way she worked with students, and I liked how organized she is about her work,” math teacher Judy Hill said.
Johnson has a long term goal to start working at the preschool level and work all the way up to college.
“I really like teaching science and math here. I think something fun to do at some point would be to start teaching at preschool, and then move up to kindergarten, first grade, and then go all the way through college. I think that would be really awesome,” Johnson said.
Johnson has been teaching at Small for eight years, but this is her first year teaching sixth grade science.
“I love the sixth grade floor. The teachers are awesome,” Johnson said.
