Latin Club Plans Trip to Rome

Remi and Riley

This year Latin Club will be traveling to Rome and Amarillo.

“We will be going to Rome over Spring Break,” Latin teacher Emma Renault said.

Latin Club is held on Monday after school at 4:30 and on Wednesdays before school from 7:00 to 8:15, but students can only join if they are in Latin.

“We are taking a day trip to Pompeii while we are in Rome,” Renault said.

Right now, the club is designing shirts to wear to competitions.

“In Latin club, we are choosing T-shirt designs for our competitions, such as the one in Amarillo,” seventh grader Mark Mills said.

The Latin Club will be doing a major competition in Amarillo. They will be training in the club through a type of scrimmage of Latin.

“The competition is in Amarillo, and I feel really confident about it because we did really good in past years,” seventh grader Emily Carr said.

This is an environment for all of the at students school who enjoy Latin.

“We have fun interacting and discussing different subjects together,” Renault said.

The students are also ready for the competition in Amarillo.

“I think we will do really well this year because we did pretty good last year,” Mills said.

Latin is the base for a lot of different languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Provençal, French, Italian, Rhaeto-Romance, and Romanian, which is why some kids like to start at Latin if they want to learn other languages.

“I wanted to learn different languages and Latin is the basis for a lot of different languages, and that’s why I chose Latin,” Mills said.
